CULTIVATING A LIFE OF STILLNESS IN THE LORD
God Almighty has positioned his heart amongst the silent of the earth. For every spiritual blessing that you will ever get in Christ, for every grace about the Lord comes from the stillness of your soul in his presence.
If we are therefore going to see God and know God, a life of stillness in Lord should be cultivated.
What causes many Christians to have burdens, confusions, restlessness, turmoils and stress?
Beloved of God, few Christians have failed to perceive that their God is the God of silence. A man cannot get anything from Him without having his soul still in the presence of God.
All sin in our members is a product of the noise within us. The soul that sinneth will never have stillness but restlessness, confusion and turmoil.
The prophet Isaiah prophesied when he said;
Isaiah 48:22
There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.
Whenever sin is present in your soul, you will never have a silent spirit for sin has its strength in noise and thus the sinful soul will never have peace.
For sin in a man’s soul will Deny Him silence and cause an ever ceasing restlessness within the heart.
All stillness with God therefore is cultivated in humbling your soul in Repentance to get out the sin in your life so you can Hear from the Lord.
Beloved, all knowledge about God is from stillness for it is written
Psalms 46:10
Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
All knowing of the Most High God therefore is when a man seeks the Lord away from all the noise and gets alone with God.
We should take an example of Elijah who after seeing so much miracles, still had not perceived that God’s way is in stillness
The scripture says
1 Kings 19:12
And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
1 Kings 19:13
And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
2 Kings 19 is a message to many of us who suppose that miracles, much ministry, power, authority in God is to have God. I tell you Elijah had seen Fire rain from Heaven yet he had never mastered the position of silence in the Lord. The scripture says, He ran for his life for Jezebel was after Him, he said, I am not better than my fathers for the noise and turmoil that run within him was great.
The scripture says, Elijah is fed by an Angel and he flees unto Horeb, the mount of God. But the scripture teaches us something here.
The Lord asks Elijah
1 Kings 19:9
And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
1 Kings 19:10
And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
Elijah the Prophet truly had been Jealous for the name of God, he had slayed the prophets of Baal and multitudes in Israel did fear God.
What is so surprising is that despite the great works of Elijah, his heart was still noisy that God asked Him, What are you Doing Here Elijah?
Minister of God, you better be so careful for it is not when you walk in miracles, cast of demons that you are filled with God, you can do all this when you are out of your position in God.
Why does God ask Elijah, what are you doing Here?
Elijah replies an answer saying, Lord, they seek my life to kill me and all the turmoil within.
Later God teaches Elijah what it means to be filled with him, He passed by in a strong wind that rent the mountains, but the Lord was not in the wind, after a wind, an earthquake, after an earthquake, a fire and after a fire a still voice and the Lord was in the still Voice.
Beloved, do we see that the Lord’s presence with us is in stillness and until we perceive this, we will never hear the voice of God.
The scripture says
Zechariah 2:13
Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation.
God is known amongst the silent of the earth for no flesh will glory in his presence.
And the works of the flesh are manifest ;
Galatians 5:19
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Galatians 5:20
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Galatians 5:21
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
All flesh should be silenced because it will always war that you strife within your members, some will lust, some will meditate corruption, some will mediate rejection and so on. The social media noise, the movies and everything that feeds your soul with anything foreign is intended that you will have all this noise and sin against God.
That is why Paul recommends us a life of silence in the spirit of God for the graces from the spirit of God are manifest as well;
Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Galatians 5:23
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:24
And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Whenever you lose your Joy of salvation, you are not meek, you are not temperate, you are no longer Gentle, this means that you are surrounded with noise within your spirit and with this you cannot see God.
Paul therefore calls us to cultivate a life that puts to death all the noise that we may receive of the newness of the life of the spirit of God.
That is why, prayer is not true unless it is in the secret place . In this secret place is where all flesh is still and nothing about us matters.
Oftentimes God tells us that he is the God who answers in the secret. As we therefore seek God, we need to understand that unless our souls are still in Him, we are not yet able to hear Him.
The spirit of God told me yesterday that the secret of a Holiness is from a man’s meditation. When your meditation therefore is in the word of God, your life will be Holy for your mind is set on Christ above
Beloved. It’s my prayer that we learn to quiet our hearts in silence. I am not meaning the silence of the mouth but the silence of the soul( mind) when you are broken in prayer and no contaminated thought can cut of the flow with God.
